The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.

Hi Guys,

no idea what happened but I am unable to install any *.pkg as of this morning. I tried with several applications (mostly vst plugins).

Every time I do i get this error: "The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."

LOG:

I'm going to get mad here, really...

I've tried everything I found online: disabled gatekeeper, reset permissions on all *.pkg files, verified and repaired permissions on my system SSD, restored backup using timemachime (2 times, even went one month back in time), reset password in recovery mode using terminal. almost everything I found online.

Can anyone help please, I am hopeless I'd have to do a clean Install?

Thanks

I realized no one has a solution to this problem so I decided to share my solution for the first time ever in the internet.
This error occurs during validation of the package so it means you have a permission problem

To solve this you need to go to:
System Preferences > Users and Groups > Login Options > Automatic login > "change to admin"

once you changed your Automatic login to your admin (you might be asked the password) log out and login back and try installation again.

I promise it works, could you please set my solution as solved so somebody like you in the future can benefit?

I only have Gemini Duplicate Dinder and App Cleaner, no antivirus at all

just to point out, it all started when I was probably trying to install 2 pkg files at one time (impatient).

I did find that you have com.zeobit.MacKeeper.Helper.plist http://www.google.com/search?q=com.zeobit.MacKeeper.Helper.plist+support+site:ze obit.com installed on the computer, please completely uninstall the apps as there is a good chance that is causing your problems. However for now work on completing uninstall MacKeeper. I was able to locate thisguide for you. I disagree with one statement the article makes, any product produced by zeobit is malware!

After fully uninstalling the app please test and if necessary post another EtreCheck report.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.

Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem.

Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.

Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.

The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.

Test while in safe mode. Same problem?

After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

I tried all you asked and nothing helped. Btw no sign of any mackeeper.

In the end I figured out one last trick that fixed my problem. Maybe this can help someone in future if they encounter such issue.

1. I erased the partition where the system was located.

2. Made a clean install of Mavericks

3. Migrated all files and info from Time Machine backup

4. Done

not sure what caused the issue but it is fixed.

Thanks for help
