Image Capture app no longer works with El Capitan 10.11 update; it does not find any pictures or videos on Iphone 5.

I'm having a similar issue with my iPhone 6 running iOS9.1 on either El Capitan 10.11.1 or Yosemite 10.10.5. What version of iOS do you run on your iPhone 5?

I opened Image Capture just to test. I had not had this problem in the past.

I connected my iPhone 4S and it showed 0 pictures...

Fortunately, I found an easy solution, which I hope will help you too.

I just deleted Image Capture's preferences.

To do this: option-click the Go menu in the Finder and choose Library (this folder is usually hidden).

Inside, open the Preferences folder, and locate all files related to Image Capture.

I had those:

com.apple.Image_Capture.plist

com.apple.ImageCapture2.DFDCEEF9-F610-554C-8292-B8434B57B2F5.plist

com.apple.ImageCaptureExtension2.59DD19E9-F546-5C70-9942-A5A367625F67.plist

com.apple.ImageCaptureExtension2.DFDCEEF9-F610-554C-8292-B8434B57B2F5.plist

These long series of letters and numbers will vary.

I just put them in a folder in my Desktop (just in case), and started Image Capture again. It immediately recognized all the images in my iPhone.

Now I can trash those preference files.

Similar problem trying to retrieve photos from an iPad - finds some photos but not all. Tried deleting the preferences lines, but no joy. Good idea though.

Everything got normal after I removed my locking code. I prefer to keep my phone locked with a code so I'll wait for a patch.

Just entering the code to unlock the phone did not work? You had to remove the code?

Exact. I had to remove the code. Simply entering it was not enough.

Image Capture worked on iMac but not on Macbook Pro.

On Macbook Pro I decided to try the right usb port and it worked.

El Capitan seems to take away more than it gives.

No cd burn for another example.

I am sure I will discover lots of other things which I don't use often but like it when I need it.

WRONG. CD burn is there just fine. It works even better.

If you want to burn a disk image to an optical drive, just control-click in the Finder, choose burn. No need to open Disk Utility for this anymore.

Where is the user manual?

I guess that is the actual problem.

We have to do a "Seek and Find" to figure out what the changes are to El Capitan and how to use them.

Where did the old stuff go, What are the new features in El Capitan and how are they used?

Keep it a simple one-liner list, (item, where, how...)

Yes, it is called Mac Help which you can find in the Finder Help menu.

I searched for "burn disc" and it provided all the info needed.

Well, upon more tests, it appears that it works once per power cycle of my iPhone and has nothing to do with having a security code or not.

I also deleted the com.apple.Image_Capture.plist file.
