Mouse linked to iMac I sold; how do I link to iPad now?

I sold my old iMac but forgot to unlink my wireless Magic Mouse before selling it. Argh! Is there a way I can get this mouse to link up with my iPad Air? Seems a shame to waste it. The iPad won't recognize it, probably because it is paired with the old iMac. Can I unpair it without having the iMac here?

Thanks!

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

If the mouse is not within range of the bluetooth it shouldn't matter.

Try this.

Turn off the mouse - take out the batteries - open bluetooth preferences, make sure there is no mouse paired.

If there is, click remove. - put the batteries back in the mouse and switch it on. you'll see a light flashing that indicates it is pairing.

in bluetooth preferences, click pair. The mouse should connect!
