HP Scanjet G4050 Not Working After Upgrade to El Capitan

I have an HP Scanjet G4050 flatbed scanner that I have been successfully using on my iMac with HP Easy Scan. Since upgrading to El Capitan the scanner will not work. I get the following message- " Scanner reported an error. An error occurred while communicating with the scanner." I uninstalled the scanner then reinstalled it, but I get the same error. I even uninstalled HP Easy Scan software and reinstalled it. I know the scanner works, as I have a virtual machine running Windows 10 and I used the scanner on it the other day after updating to El Capitan. I made sure the scanner was set to use on the Mac side of the computer before trying to use it today. This is the same type issue we had last year after upgrading to Yosemite. I rely on my scanner and use it frequently.
