does a single or dual band modem make a difference when connected to AirPort Extreme?

Cox Internet requires a DOCSIS 3.0 modem. They offer a dual band wireless option, and a single band option. Does the Airport Extreme extend the bandwidth itself? Does the modem's bandwidth make a difference?

You don't need a wireless option at all on the modem, since the AirPort Extreme will handle that service. All that you really need is a simple modem.

If Cox does not offer a simple modem only, and you must accept a modem/router, then the AirPort Extreme cannot wirelessly extend the signal from the Cox modem/router, so you will need to plan to connect the AirPort Extreme to the Cox device using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection.

You may not need two wireless networks, so you might consider using the Cox network for "guests" or the "kids", or turn it off.
