iMessage says "waiting for activation" and my phone number says "unknown"

I'm not sure how to fix this. My phone will no longer send pictures. When I go to settings for messages my number is loading it seems. With the spinning sign next to it. And under phone it just says "unknown". My own contact info is in the phone and everything is correct in te FaceTime section.
