Midi Not Recognized?

I have a Midi to USB cord plugged into a Yamaha PSR-290 keyboard into my Macbook Pro running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5. I'm trying to record a project on Garageband for school, and my computer isn't recognizing that anything is plugged into the USB port. Not sure what to do. My assignment is due tomorrow.

It looks like Apple broke midi interfaces in El Capitan... I am having the same issue with an Avid MBOX 2 which worked perfectly fine in Yosemite..

If you poke through the El Capitan and Pro App forums you'll see there are a lot of posts about this.. unfortunately.
