x11 will not start on el capitan
I get an error starting X11 server "Failed to activate core devices"
by an application after updating to el capitan.
See screen capture below. Any idea how to fix this?
iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)
X11 hasn't worked for quite a few OS's, now.
There is a replacement suggested by Apple: About X11 and OS X - Apple Support
Thanks for the reply.
It is odd that it just quit now for me with the update to el capitan.
I have been keeping my OS up tp date.
In any case I will try your suggestion.
Thanks again

I tried this. It appears to have installed correctly and I rebooted however the problem is still there.
Any other ideas?
Thanks
Learn about X11 and OS X.
X11 is no longer included with OS X, but X11 server and client libraries for OS X are available from the XQuartz project: http://xquartz.macosforge.org. You should use the latest available version of XQuartz.
My guess would be whatever program you are using is hard-coded to use X11.
Can you start XQuartz and then launch the program from within the X11 environment.
XQuartz runs on my EC.
I called the Developer Pentair Pools.
They are aware of the problem and I suspect it might be what you mentioned.
I am going to wait and see if they come up with a fix.
Thanks
