Email does not send

I upgraded to El Capitain. Now I cannot send email (it just sits in my outbox). Both the server and the client are Apple mail (both have been upgraded).

Connection Doctor shows no errors. Nothing has changed - other than the upgrade. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Macbook Air. OS X 10.11. I am using eleven different email accounts running on two different servers, also Gmail and Yahoo. After upgrading to El Capitan email does not send anymore using the Apple Mail client. All email remain in the outbox! The advice to use general troubleshooting steps is not helpful. I have a Macbook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.5 with identical email settings. Also iPhone 6, running iOS 9.0.2. The problem only occurs on the Macbook Air with the El Capitan upgrade. Compare similar complaints. Please inform if the problem has been identified and let us know if a fix is in the pipeline.

I have the same problem. Since upgrading to El Capitan, any mail I try to send via apple mail goes directly to my outbox and sits there. It's definitely not my internet provider because I can send email on a computer thats still running Sno Leopard. I can also send mail from my mobile devices and web mail. Connection Doctor says everything is fine.

I'm running 3 accounts POP email in Apple Mail. My main account though keeps popping up errors that no smtp-server has been selected, which is nonsense. It has been selected.

Also, I have disabled the icloud mail IMAP account, but Mail keeps wanting to start new emails from this account.

I had hoped the update to 10.11.1 would have solved the issues that started in 10.11.0, but no.
