    What do you mean? What exactly happened when you did the software update? What makes you think the firmware was also updated?

    iOS updates always state "Updating Firmware" as they proceed.  This has been true for at least four or five years, and possibly since the original iOS updates starting in 2007.

    Thank you sberman! When I update my iOS, I start the update and leave the phone alone, so figured that everything it was going to do (including updating the firmware) it would do. When it is all done, I then go and mess with it. But not until it is all done. So, wasn't sure what "signs" the OP might have seen that would have seemed unusual or odd.....

     

    So, go to know that it's all a part of the updating process.

    Thinking back a generation or so, I was in charge of a family of Digital Equipment Corp. VAX computers.  At the time, they exhibited the same architectural excellence the Apple products tend to exhibit now.  As is true now, as soon as an operating system update was issued, I was the first to install it.  But doing so well required paying very careful attention to each and every event, no matter how small, that occurred during the update.  I was absolutely fixated on paying attention to each minute detail, and taking remedial steps during the update as was sometimes required.

     

    These days, remediation is very rarely needed for Apple updates, but I still pay a lot of attention to the goings--on!
