That is a probably caused by the recent problem with "Onscreen Proofing". Several forum members reported that turning on Onscreen Proofing in the View menu will make the photos appear washed out.

Oct 6, 2015 9:07 PM in response to supernovartby supernovart,Another issue I have encountered - when viewing photos that have been enhanced with adjustments, the adjustments appear on thumbnails but do not appear on the main viewer. I had to click out of the Project and back in to sort this out..

Oct 7, 2015 12:33 AM in response to supernovartby Michael Haffey,Another problem I've had with El Capitan and Aperture is that *sometimes* when I am brushing in enhancements (e.g. skin smoothing, sharpening, dodge, burn, etc) and I choose "Overlay colour" then the colour doesn't overlay.
