Hello guys, I've got a mac. v.10.6.8
Processor: 3.06 Ghz Intel Core i3
Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
and I want to update my computer although I am scared it will slow my computer. Does anyone know anything about updating causing slower computer?

It's all a question of memory, really. Have you checked to see if your computer meets all the requirements for you to take on El Capitan.

iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2010)

Note that you can install up to 32 GB RAM and a 4 TB HDD. This will not slow the iMac down.

What if I update my computer's OS as it is? Will it slow my computer?
That is difficult to say with certainty. It has been my observation that the newer operating systems fare better with 8 GB RAM (or more). If I were in your situation, I would install at least 8 GB RAM.

(I made an error before. The 27" iMac can address more than 16 GB RAM, not the 21.5" iMac)
