Safari 9 - high CPU load - bug

Hi,

I experience a constant CPU load of 130% as soon as I open Safari. It remains even if I close every single window. And it remains easily for at least an hour or longer. I checked for everything I could disable under "Develop" and in the Preferences - no success.

Then I found out that the CPU load is caused by opening "Favorites" on either "New windows open with:" or "New tabs open with:". If I open both with Empty Page or anything other than Favorites - no problem.

See if an SMC reset helps > Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

I had the same issue and could not find a working solution for Safari 9 in OSX 10.10 release. Now I just upgraded to El Capitan and seems that the problem disappeared.

I had the same issue with Safari 9 and OS X 10.10.5.

Then i updated Flash player to the latest version (19.0.0.226), restarted Safari and i no longer see the problem.

It seems to me the previous version of Flash player did not work properly with Safari 9.

Latest version of Flash (as of this writing version 19.0.0.226) and the problem persists.

Quitting and restarting Safari will sometimes help for a short period but the problem always returns.

Flash is not the culprit. Also updating to the latest V9.0.1 did not help 😠 The high load appears to be random, not able to point to a particular page. Flushing Caches and Settings only helps for some minutes

Update: switching off the favorites for new tabs does not solve the issue. It still occurs. It does, however, seem to not appear instantly after starting Safari. It sometimes takes an hour. I have not yet found out what the trigger is, though.

@Carolyn, I tried that. Helped for a few hours, then the CPU went up again.

Need to use Chrome instead :-(

Same problem here.. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7283112 First it appeared to be related to viewing Top Sites, but not anymore. It happens randomly even when Top Sites are never viewed.
