TWAIN solution?

After a clean installation of EC one of the challenges is to get a TWAIN scanner (not that old, by the way) working. Apple dropped TWAIN support some time ago - just forgot to tell us - but there was the workaround of installing the old drivers manually. Now with so much more security I wonder whether already someone managed to put TWAIN back to work again. Preferably without having to switch of system integrity.

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

I’ve had a few issues with getting my scanner to work (Epson WorkForce 3620 all-in-one) but I am able to scan with it. I keep getting strange messages like “The scanner is assigned to Image Capture. Do you want use Twain with this scanner?) I have investigated and found that at least Epson, Canon, and Brother all have FAQ’s about the problem so they are aware of it. They all recommend opening Image Capture and under File select “Reset Twain Devices” which worked for me. There appears to be a conflict between Twain and ICA (Apple’s preferred driver framework). Hopefully a permanent solution is coming either from the manufacturers and/or a future El Capitan update.

There is no such option on the file menu of my copy of Image Capture, take a screenshot of it and post it here.

Solution for Canon MX300 series on macOS 10.12 Sierra with MP Navigator EX 1.0.8:

System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Scan Button: [Currently Assigned App ]

Click the dropdown menu: Set the selection to "MP Navigator EX".

If it is yet not in the listed, choose "Other…", then browse to "/Applications", then select "MP Navigator EX".

From then on the error message was gone.
