MacBook Air (Mid-2013) crashing

My MacBook Air NEVER crashed before I installed El Capitan. Now it crashes when I'm using split view or apps are in full screen, sometimes it is just Safari or Pages is open and it crashes while I'm in the middle of typing up a document and I lose my progress. Any suggestions on how to limit or eliminate this problem?
