It can't be removed. I have deleted the app and re-installed but with same issue.
I do not use an external keyboard, I do use a magic mouse. Both appear to work correctly .
The words "Nothing selected" appear briefly and then vanish.
Any help word be appreciated.

Now I have upgraded to El Capitan, deleted Pages, re installed Pages and still have the same problem? HELP Please .
Why not do a screen capture of that entire blank dialog box and use the camera icon in this editor's toolbar to post it back here. Shift+command+4, move the cross-hair pointer over the blank dialog box, press the space bar once (the dialog box is bathed in blue), and then click. The image goes to your desktop.
The dialogue box just sits on top. It can't be moved, reduced or minimised.
The words "Nothing Selected, select an image or object" briefly appear.
Does this occur when you are attempting to open a specific document, or just launching the application? In either case, press and hold the shift key to see if that by-passes this blank sheet. I cannot duplicate this with my Pages v5.5.3 on Yosemite 10.10.5.

Empty dialogue box appears on start up of Pages 5.5.3 on Macbook pro mid 2012, OS X 10.10.5.
