Security Update 2015-006 won't install on Mountain Lion

Finally upgraded my 2010 iMac running Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion today. Only to find that I cannot install Security Update 2015-006 1.0.

I've tried everything I can think of:

booting into the recovery mode and repairing disc/permissions
reinstalling Mountain Lion all over again
downloading the update manually (i.e. not through the App Store) and installing it by hand
installing all other updates first

I'm at a loss. Please help me figure out how to installing this critical update.

iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Try booting into the Safe Mode to see if you can install it there. If that doesn't work, create a new admin account and see if you can install it there.

But I am not running Mavericks. I just installed Mountain Lion.

Thank you, Eric, for the suggestion. I didn't know about Safe Mode.

Unfortunately I cannot attest to whether or not that would have worked. This is because I'd already tried this (and it worked!) before you posted your response: kextcache error while updating /

I will keep Safe Mode in mind for any future issues I have.
