ARD Observe/Control Cursor Freezing

When observing and/or controlling a machine (persistent on/lan and vpn) the cursor in the screensharing window in my machine will freeze, flash and become unresponsive, the only way to resume normal operation (nothing is different or apparent on the machine being controlled) is to change applications via expose.

This issue appears to be very persistent on retina macbook pro's (13" & 15", we have three at home) but not as much on a macbook air.

Troubleshooting has included setting up a machine from new straight from the box, reinstalling ARD, reinstalling OS X and erasing and installing OS X with no backup restore..what gives? 😕
