unable to empty trash

So tried the terminal option and seemed to work (return key - no errors).

HOwever still thousands of parts in trash.

The last part of the instruction after terminal directions is

'Empty TRash'.

LoL - am i missing something? Should it not be empty?

Anyways, I'd love to hear from any folks out there on how one of the simplest actions on any computer (bar a Macbook pro it would seem) can be performed.
