I've upgraded to El Capitan and since doing so my Apple Mail app freezes/locks up when clicking on a message. It only happens for about 5 seconds but has become extremely frustrating due to the large amount of time I spend with emails.
Running 16gb RAM and 2,5 GHz Intel Core i5.

Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, Mail freezes and locks up frequently. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

On my Mac, Mail starts and eats up all my available memory ... Getting to the point of looking at archiving all mail and starting again!
Completely useless.
I've moved my work email over to Outlook 2016 so I can at least do some stuff. The rest I am having to manage via my iPad ... and I subscribe to a lot of lists so 400+ legit emails a day that used to be sorted and managed via rules.
Really not happy.
