Having hours:minutes in a cell

I am using Numbers 2.3 (for the features) and would like to have cells that show Hours:Minutes. For example,

4:32

2:02

Want it to ONLY be hours and minutes and not a date/time variable. I would like to be able to add/subtract and otherwise manipulate them as hour:minute variables. In other words, I would like to be able to add the column and get...

6:34

I tried formatting the cells as date:none, time: hours:minutes. But when I put in 2:02, for example, Numbers creates a whole date-time variable like October 6, 2:02 am. Is there any way around this besides creating a double column (one for hours and one for minutes)?

Enter the values as durations by formatting the column as a Duration, then set the duration format as 0:00:00:

you can use math operations like and formulas like sum() with the duration values
