VPN on my MacBook i.e. internet usage is this a good idea?
Hi There,
Is it a good idea to use a VPN? Am guessing only business people use these?
Mac Book Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

VPN (Virtual Private Network) creates a secure tunnel between end points. This tunnel can be used for secure communicating between these end points. Software is required at both ends of the tunnel. So if you have an end point that is running a VPN and you have the credentials needed to connect to it then you can use VPN.

Hi Bob,
The reason I'm asking is that on our iPhones they keep advertising VPN defender, which originally alerted me to thinking perhaps we all need to protect our IDs

How much do you trust the people at the other end of the VPN tunnel? They will be able to see all your Internet traffic. Are they any more trustworthy than random strangers, who most likely don't know who you are?
Hmmm Good point. Thank you. Decision made. 🙂
