Q: Installation issues

I tried downloading OS X El Capitan last night. It took FOREVER, but I thought it had fully downloaded. Then, this morning when I checked my computer, the update is listed as downloaded under "Purchased" at the App store, but I am still running Yosemite. When I try to download again, it just keeps processing the request without doing anything. Help?!

    Hi kdrake8,

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

If I understand correctly, you downloaded the OS X El Capitan the other night and then noticed that it wasn't installed the next morning, so you tried to download it again and the download just appears to be processing. Could it be that you've already downloaded OS X El Capitan and somehow quit the installer?

Try opening 'Install OS X El Capitan' from the Applications folder, by clicking the Finder icon in the Dock and opening a new Finder, then selecting Applications from the Go menu as shown below.

You can also jump to certain folders from the Go menu. Select the folder from the menu and the Finder displays its contents.

    Finder > Go menu

    Applications folder

The Applications folder holds all of your apps. Double-click an app to open it. You can also open an app using Launchpad.

After opening the installer, all you have to do is follow the onscreen instructions to install OS X El Capitan.

    Cheers.
