El Capitan Frozen After Sleep

I have an early 2015 Macbook Pro that I recently upgraded to El Capitan. It wakes from sleep fine when it has been closed for a short amount of time, but if it is in sleep, say overnight, when it wakes, the keyboard and mouse are unresponsive. This leads me to having to restart my computer daily now. Does anyone know any fixes for this? Thank you.

Thank you very much. This fixed the issue. I also turned off "Animations on opening" in the Dock Preferences . Thanks for posting!

System Presences -> Bluetooth -> Advanced:

  • Open Bluetooth Setup Assistant at startup if no keyboard is detected;
  • Open Bluetooth Setup Assistant at startup if no mouse or trackpad is detected; and
  • Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer.

I had this issue on a new Mac Pro 2013 (Sierra). I noticed this after I replaced the Magic Mouse (1st gen) with the Magic Mouse 2. I am not sure if the mouse changes had anything to do with this. The solution that worked for me was to uncheck all the boxes in system Presences -> Bluetooth -> Advanced for the items shown below:

System Presences -> Bluetooth -> Advanced: Uncheck all items below

  • Open Bluetooth Setup Assistant at startup if no keyboard is detected;
  • Open Bluetooth Setup Assistant at startup if no mouse or trackpad is detected; and
  • Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer.

I have the same problem, but with Siera. I noticed the replies towards the end of this thread suggesting upgrade to Siera fixed the problem. For me the problem started when I upgraded to Siera.

I have this problem too. Seems worse now and usually occurs after some time in deep sleep. When it happened again this week, I immediately went to the "console" window in Utilities to see what registered in the log. There was a warning that the "en2" search for Wifi failed to connect and later reconnected through another channel. I'm using an older 4th generation Time Capsule hat has been updated with the latest firmware. Thinking the freeze coming out of sleep was Wifi related, I activated my ethernet cable along with leaving Wifi enabled because I use it t sync other wireless devices. In Network preferences, I clicked on the gear drop down symbol and chose "Set Service Order" and put the Ethernet connection in first order, so the system no longer attempts to get a WiFi channel when coming out of sleep, but rather, uses the ethernet settings. So far, this has appeared to solve the freeze issue. Only time will tell if it's is the only culprit.

I fixed this problem by going through the steps mentioned in the macissues link: http://www.macissues.com/2015/05/08/how-to-fix-your-mac-not-waking-from-sleep/, but it no longer works. I just upgraded to the new OS and my iMac is back to freezing up again after long sleeps, those who used the link remember what steps were involved in the macissues link? Thanks in advance.

I am finding a similar problem. After the MBP goes to sleep for more than an hour when I wake it I am finding it has rebooted. I am not seeing any error messages.

It went to sleep last night and when I tried to wake it this morning it didn't. I had to use the power button and had a "Sleep Wake Failure" error message that the system had to reboot.

El Capitan seem pretty buggy so far. Sleep/wake is a definite major issue in my book. I've had daily unscheduled reboots since upgrading.
