Single back-up of multi-user Mac

I have an iMac that has multiple users. It is a family machine and some users also have their own personal machines. I backup this entire family Mac via my iMac admin account to my own TC account. This works fine for me. The problem is, there does not seem to be a way for users other than myself to restore a file to their own account. What is the proper configuration for a multiuser iMac so that individuals may restore their own files from a TM backup? I cannot seem to find and info on this at Apple or the support groups.

Only two (bad) solutions I see are:

1) Each user backing up their own account. Seems excessive to say the least!

2) I COULD, I suppose grant each user access to my TC folder, but that seems like a rather shaky idea too. That means they now all have access to all my TC files.

This cannot be a unique situation.
