Preview annotations

The old Preview let me click where I wanted to type- really good for taking notes. The new Preview only lets me create text boxes to type in, which I then need to move after. How do I get the old Preview text function back?

What do you mean by "new" Preview?

I have OS Yosemite and when I updated i got a newer version of preview that did not let me annotate on the page. The tool bar looks like this...

I am experiencing the same problem. Before updating to 10.12 I could click in the fields of an editable PDF and type into those fields and use tab to move to the next field and continue editing. Now Preview does not recognize these fields.
