Probably a simple one, but can I keep multiple incomplete IMovie projects going at one time?
Often I may use the piece of video in multiple projects.
If yes, how do I save them, in order to return to them to do more work, without "completing" them?

Yes. You don't have to do anything. Unfinished projects remain in the iMovie 10 library whether you have shared them or not and you can resume editing at any time. the same applies for iMovie 9 if you are using the earlier version. make sure you have a backup though.

This is probably a dumb question but how do we go about saving an unfinished project and starting a new one?
As I said above they are saved automatically so you don't have to do anything. To create anew project, select the event you want it to be in then File > New Movie. Choose the theme (or none) then click on Create.
