Q: What happened to my scanner El Capitan?

Thanks Apple! After I upgraded to El Capitan I went to use my scanner and behold I can't see it anymore. I have an Epson perfection 2450 Photo scanner which I use for scanning and faxing. So at the present I no longer have a scanner or a fax, thanks Apple! I went to the Epson website to re-install the driver, that didn't work. Then I removed it from Printers and scanners in System Preferences and tried to add it but now my network does't even see it anymore. Does anyone else have this problem?

I tried to use my Epson Perfection V600 scanner with El Capitan, connected with a USB 2 cable. The OS does not recognize the scanner. I tried a different cable with the same results. I spent a hour on the phone with Epson support, and they finally came to the conclusion that it was Apple's fault. I asked about a new driver to work with El Capitan and they assured me that they were working on it and would have something by the end of the year! I guess I should put my scanner away for 2 months.

"Upgrading" to El Capitan was the worst decision I made all year. (The upgrade also lost almost all of my

Apple Mail inbox). I am appalled at Apple's lack of responsibility or concern for the problems they have created with this bug-filled product, and I am not very pleased with Epson either.

I starting to think that El Capitan was more of a marketing move than an upgrade. I guess with this upgrade Apple took more away from it's users than they added. Apple is getting worst the more it evolves. Sad, very sad!

I did the 'upgrade' to El Capitan from Yosemite a couple of days ago.  iMac pretty much top spec according to the Apple Store.

I have 2 scanners, both connected by USB. :

    1. Epson XP-700

    2. Canon Lide700F

Immediately after the upgrade, I couldn't even print to the Epson, but managed to get it back by deleting and reinstalling it.

Now, the Epson is visible in Printers & Scanners.  I can print to it, but Epson Scan doesn't see it, therefore cannot scan.  According the the Epson support site, my driver for it is the most recent.

The Canon is not visible in Printers and Scanners, and the only way I got it to work at all was to download the latest TWAIN driver from the Canon website.  Now I can scan using Canon's MP Navigator program, but the scanner is STILL not visible in Printers & Scanners.  As a result, I have had to change the settings in Photoscore (that's OCR for sheet music), which doesn't work as nicely as using Photoscore to scan music directly.

I installed the fix to El Capitan that Apple sent out last week (10.1.1) and now my Epson V600 printer works again with my MacBook Pro.

Well I have downloaded the latest El Capitan and my Epson CX6600 scanner still won't work.  Printer works perfectly, it is just the scanner.  I am using a USB and always have done.

I have an Epson "perfection" V500 Photo scanner.  It won't work with El Capitan.  I've been on the

phone for two hours with Epson, two separate calls, second to supervisory.  They finally admitted

their driver that they provide for 10.11 is for 10.10, and they won't have a new driver out until

    the end of Dec.

this worked for me with my v700

      1. On your Mac, open Image Capture, then select File >Reset TWAIN devices.
      2. Close Image Capture.
      3. Restart your Mac.

then open epson scan and it should ask you if you would like to use it with image capture or with epson scan

choose epson scan and voila now working like a charm

Same issues here ... Yosemite was good, and El Crapitan is just a poor release that I don't expect from Apple .... I run a small business and the scanner was always a wireless option - NOW - 4 people walk over and plug their MBookPros into the Printer/Scanner ... - and nothing seems to be happening.

I have had so  many conversations with techs who don't know the answers .....

Thank you to threelightsix.  This solved the issue for me.

I installed the latest Epson drivers but nothing worked.  Only when I reset the TWAIN drivers and rebooted did my scanner reappear.  Thank you.

Please tell me where/how to open image capture. Have same problem with my iMac and V700 scanner after upgrading to El Capitan. Not a good situation for many users!

    Thanks.
