Q: What happened to my scanner El Capitan?

Thanks Apple! After I upgraded to El Capitan I went to use my scanner and behold I can't see it anymore. I have an Epson perfection 2450 Photo scanner which I use for scanning and faxing. So at the present I no longer have a scanner or a fax, thanks Apple! I went to the Epson website to re-install the driver, that didn't work. Then I removed it from Printers and scanners in System Preferences and tried to add it but now my network does't even see it anymore. Does anyone else have this problem?

Launchpad > Other > Image Capture.

Don't know why this Other bit doesn't show the contents in alphabetical order, probably some settting that I haven't bothered to learn!

Incidentally, System Preferences on my iMac sometimes shows my Epson XP700 and Canon LIDE700F, but Epson Scan still doesn't work.  I have given up, and just use the Canon for scanning, which works even with MP Navigator even when not visible in System Preferences (sigh)

    Hi Folks,

got the same problem as you: I upgraded my iMac to El Capitan, then my Epson V500 (+USB) stopped working even if the green light was on....

I saw this forum (thanx to all of you,  by the way...), tried different things (uninstall Driver, Epson.com, etc...) THEN I went to the AppStore, and I saw an Epson Driver Upgrade... I downloaded it, then restarted my iMac, and... it WORKED! So it's totally new and you should try it!

I can't find an Epson driver in the App store.  I used just about every combination of

terms you listed in your posting.

I was tearing out what little hair I had left trying to install my Epson 4490 photo scanner into El Capitan and then thought, what the ****, and installed the driver for OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and that worked perfectly. Power on the scanner open Epson Scan app and choose to open in "twain". I can now let my hsir grow back. Why Epson is trying to get us to download a driver that won't work is beyond me when they already havr one (an older one) that WILL WORK!

    Hi All.

Epson WD 3520 combo printer-scanner:  With Yosemite I could not use the OSX Image capture app over WiFi but could use the Epson scanner app which I prefer.  Now with El Capitan the reverse is true.

Any security issues aside, surely Apple did beta versions with major peripheral suppliers like Epson?

Actually I forgot to mention that the printer part works just fine over WiFi.  Its just the scanner part that is a bother.

I have a MacBook Air and Canon MP560 combo printer/scanner and am also no longer able to scan via USB, although I can print.  Why do is this not a priority issue for Apple to fix?

    Hi Kellipsf

I solved my Epson WD3520 scanner issue by following advice from Photobruch on this forum, which was to revert back to the OSX 10.8 scanner driver.  I tried the one for 10.9 and this enabled Image Capture to access the scanner.  However, the Epson Scan App still does not work even though I have installed the official updates from Epson for OSX 10.11.  Bizarre really.

Perhaps a similar appoach will work for you.

    Cheers

I have the same issue. I found if I go into System Prefs/Printers & Scanners/Scan/Open Scanner I can use the scanner. It's a lot of clicks but it works for me at least. Hope that helps.

I have a Canon MP630 and the scanner doesn't work anymore with El sh...Capitan. When I choose 'open scanner' I have the message "a required file is missing or corrupted, or settings are incorrect. Try the installation again". What installation , what settings ? I reset the printer, I can print with it but no scanner. Any solution? Thanks.

Found this thread: Canon MP620  can't scan after installing El Capitan (version 10.11.1)

Thanks for the help and no thanks to Apple not releasing this in the App Store. automatically.

I have a CanoScan LiDE 200 with USB connection. iMac (late 2009) running OSX 10.11.1

Scanner no longer works, so I tried Threelightsix's suggestion

I opened ImageCapture.app and clicked on file Reset TWAIN devices.

I also downloaded latest LiDE drivers and MP Navigator software for Yosemite. Cannon site says my LiDE 200 is not supported with El Capitan.

Rebooted - and the scanner moved the scan bar so I knew it was recognized

Then looked at Printer & Scanner preferences and YES, my CanoScan LiDE 200 was there.

Opened MP Navigator EX and up popped message about scanner was paired with image capture - did I want to use with TWAIN - clicked YES

Scanned only one page then no more - either hung on scan or message about scanner not found.

Only resolution I have now is after every 'Hang', I unplug the scanner USB cable, reconnect, then (using MP Navigator EX) get one more page scanned.

    repeat endlessly.

    Apple, please fix this bug

I have had similar problems with Epson V700 scanner for the past three weeks after upgrade of El Capitan. Tried everything that I read on this posting plus spent 40 minutes with tech support at Epson (not in U.S.A.)!  Nothing worked.

Last evening I checked for Apple upgrades and noticed that there is now two upgrades available: one is called El Capitan recovery update and the second is an upgrade for OS 10.11.2. Please notice the ".2". The  download is about 2 Gb.

My scanner now does everything that it originally did a year ago. It works!

Hope this information is helpful to all.
