My battery just broke out of its 'cage'

Hi, my battery just broke out of its 'cage' while sitting on my desk and charging overnight. The picture below i of the bottom of the Mac, but the battery actually pushed the Mac up so it looked like it was lying on top of a book or something. Since this happened with me actually trying to open the battery, will i be eligible for a replacement of some kind?

This is a pre 2008 Macbook Pro 17" with removable battery.
