Group Messages Come In Hours Later

I have an iPhone 6 update to 9.0.2. My Wife has an iPhone 5 not updated (thank God). I have had problems with frozen screens but that seems to be resolved. However, when a group message is sent where my wife and I are both recipients, she gets her's promptly in real time. My copy will not show up for hours, usually over nite. I have fiddled with the message settings but to no avail. Can anyone help?
