MacBook Pro after upgrade to OS X Yosemite time machine stopped working properly, help thx

After upgraded from OS X 10.6.8 to OS X Yosemite, the Time Machine doesn't work properly. Flashing but never finish. I am using a hard drive and USB connection. It used to work no problem. The only change is the upgrade. Please help !!!
