badge app icon for facebook and messenger not working

My badge app icon for certain apps like facebook and messenger, among others, is not working and hasn't been for a few months. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the apps...rebooting the phone, resetting the network settings, and last night I actually restored my phone and still nothing. I don't know what else to try. Some apps the badge app icon works fine, like Twitter and mail and messages, others like FB and messenger,not at all.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
