Canon PowerShot camera not recognized by imac when plugged in USB port

I have had similar models of this camera before and never had an issue. This one is a Canon PowerShot Elph 150 IS. I normally plug these cameras in and iPhoto automatically opens up. This new camera doesn't show up when plugged in. I tried switching to a different USB port but that didn't make any difference. Any ideas?

Thank you!

I would recommend using a SD card reader rather than directly connecting your camera. However if you insist on using the camera connect it and then open Image Capture to set it to open iPhoto. Here is an article that explains how to take advantage of Image Capture.

BTW, if you have upgraded to 10.10.3, iPhoto has been discontinued and is being replaced by Photos.
