Cannot type text message the box is grey with 0.00 in it

Try a reset on the phone (hold power + home button down at the same time until Apple logo appears, then let go). When the phone reboots, the issue should be resolved.

This happened to me. I'm not sure how it went away but it did. VERY annoying.

hi i have the same issue sent phone to Apple said nothing wrong with phone on my i phone 5s and 6 so have to keep switching on and off phone as you say very annoying

The same thing has been happening to me. But instead of turning off the phone, I just go into the app switcher and close Messages. When I go back to my app, the gray box is gone. Of course it happens every once in a while, but closing the app is less annoying that turning my phone off and on again. I do hope Apple fixes this with the next update.

Yes that resolves the issue but only for a moment!

I am having the same issue. I go to settings, messages then toggle the character count on and off, but it still comes back. At least it is easier than trying to shut the phone down. Also, I just got my phone unlocked and had to do a complete restore. It happened before and then still happens after.

It is a fix, but not the fix we need. Apple! Fix it!

I discovered that you can hit "return" a couple of times to page down below the grey area, and then go back and delete the returns later. But at least you can see your typing.

ive been having this problem too.....

double click the home button, delete messenger from running in the background, and open it again. it should be fixed....though ive been having to do this every now and then >.<

still have the same issue back to my windows phone
