El Capitan - App store and iTunes won't let me sign in

So i updated to el capitan, but when i tried to sign in to apple music from iTunes the login sheet accepts my login details but the wheels keep spinning and the login sheet never goes away. My CPU usage from iTunes shoots up to 120+%.

Same for the app store, the login window never goes away. Now i can't update any of my apps, nor re-download el capitan to perform a clean install.

HELP!!!

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

FYI. aPenguin's solution didn't solve the issue for me.

To recap,

1) I CAN see my Serial Number in "about this mac".

2) My login to iCloud and iTunes always hang when I try to login. If I provide a bad password, it will tell me right away, but it hangs with the proper Password.

3) I tried to change my password but that didn't help.

4) still Frustrated!!!

Hi

Same problem here on my 07' MacBook Pro. Internet search turned up info that during the upgrade the hardware serial number sometimes gets lost. Check your "About this Mac". If the serial number shows "unavailable" then this is what happened to you as well.

I just repaired the problem myself using "Blank Board Serializer" from (rogersm.net). Find your hardware serial number, follow the directions (there is also a Utube on the procedure (fix iCloud problems due to missing Mac serial number). Be very careful to type in correct serial number, you are given several warnings about this.

NOTE: If you are under warrantee or Apple Care go to the store. My 07 is definitely outside warrantee.

Just finished this procedure, and all is well, connected immediately to iCloud, now enjoying El Capitan.

Anyone else still having this problem? I updated to El Capitan a few weeks back, and I didn't notice that App Store had stopped working until yesterday. So I updated El Capitan to 10.11.1 manually, and this solved the problem temporarily, but now it's stopped working once again. I've tried all the fixes suggested in this and similar threads, but nothing seems to work. My computer's serial number is intact, so there's no problem there at least. Ideas? I'm running a late 2012 27" iMac. It's a strange affair, this entire thing, glad that my MBP has been running smoothly since I switched to El Capitan at least.

I have drove myself crazy the last few days trying to get logged into iTunes and iCloud. Finally, I went to the apple page to set up an appointment to have it looked at and it had me sign in. When I signed in it said my account was locked (imagine that since I've probably tried no less than a thousand times to sign in) and prompted me to retrieve my password. I ended up just making a new password and all is well now. Hope it works for you.

The following procedure worked for me. Please note that it will delete your Apple ID account information for the current user and you will need to log in again.

  • if the App Store is opened and stuck in the login process, force close it
  • open the Terminal
  • issue the following commands:
    • sudo pkill -9 -f Account
    • sudo rm $HOME/Library/Accounts/*
  • open the App Store and log in

I have had a similar problem since updating to Mac OS X 10.11.2. iTunes works, but the App Store app sits with a blank screen and a spinning wheel in the upper-left-hand corner. I can log out and log in, but nothing ever appears on the screen.

I've tried sprashan12's suggestion with no luck, other than having to restore my Mail accounts and reenable iCloud backups of Contacts and Calendar.

I tried logging in with another admin account. The App Store worked fine there.

I rebooted in safe mode (space bar held down during boot). This took a very long time and never displayed the Finder screen, so I shut off the machine (held the power button until it shut off) and restarted NOT in safe mode. Again took a long time to boot, but eventually made it this time, and now the App Store works. Go figure.

So here's a permanent fix and to quote Adam Sandler, something that could have been brought to my attention yesterday! The iPhoto app is still available with all of its features including not showing hidden pictures in the applications folder. Dump the "photos" app, go back iphoto and voila, fixed. Now, why would apple replace iphoto with this photo program just out of nowhere is well beyond me. I just assumed they were the same program since the iphoto program was automatically replaced in my dock. Thanks to the users who replied to my private message and apologies for the tone, I thought I talking to apple.

For those folks having issues getting the App Store to work (spinning beach ball when launched) you might want to try turning on the App Store Debug Mode. You can get logging info and reset a lot of items. The easiest way I've found is to download and run TinkerTool (now available for El Capitan) and toggle the Debug mode using the App Store section.

Or of course you can use a terminal command

defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true

I Have the same kind of problem.. Under 'about this mac' is no serial.

cant login to itunes can't use my apple id in my mac anywhere..

some threads say it has something to do with antivirus but i havent got any, so that can't be the problem.

read so many threads about and its been going on for so long, has somebody found an answer for that stuff?

cheers,

raino

Epenguins tutorial worked as long as it is appstore and itunes log ins.. Now i discovered that all my mail accounts are gone and if i ry to add a google account let's me fill the fields as long as address, password and allowing access to mac + checking to box beside mail in which app i want to use google in.. Then it freezes.. If i but cancel, it shuts down (mail itself) .. Maybe again it has something to do with not having a serial number where it should be?
