Photo failed to import and delete photos from iPhone.

I have over 1,000 photos to import into iPhoto from my iPhone 5. Plugged in, iPhoto booted up, I went through the import all and delete all functions but when I went to my iPhone all the images were still in the Camera Roll and there was no 'Event' in iPhoto for those pics. How do I prompt I photo to import the camera Roll images that are left on the iPhone 5?
