You may get a version cheap on eBay or Amazon, but if you are seriously involved in the industry then I would advise you purchase it for the price charged by the developers so you have access to critical updates and after purchase backup service.

Oct 20, 2015 5:19 AM in response to petermac87by bobcatzy,Thanks for the help you guys. I wound up buying Logic Studio 9 on eBay. I installed it yesterday, but now I find out that Logic Pro 9 doesn't run on the new OS X El Capitan system. I'm pretty angry cause the Logic specialist at Applecare told me that it would run. Stupid me, I only got the first name of the guy who misinformed me. Apple tells me that my choice is to move my operating system back to Mountain Lion, meaning that I would lose all the work that I've done since Sept 30, or I can put Mountain Lion on an external hard drive and work on a new platform when I work on Logic. Very frustrating!

Oct 20, 2015 2:14 PM in response to bobcatzyby petermac87,Why did you not purchase LogicProX? The old boxed set was made redundant in 2011 and only LogicProX has worked on recent OSXs. I would try for a refund and put it towards purchasing the latest version. Trying to cut corners on price for software will invariably do this. A simple Google search would have told you this also. (For what it's worth I still thought that LogicProX came on Disc, but it does not, only direct download. If you would prefer something cheaper try GarageBand).
Sorry

Oct 20, 2015 6:30 PM in response to petermac87by bobcatzy,I need to use Logic Pro 9 cause that's what the guy who is helping me learn music recording and production uses. I'll get Logic Pro X down the road. Turns out Applecare was wrong and the most recent version of Logic Pro 9 does work on El Capitan. I am up and running. Thanks all for the good advice.
