how to import AVCHD video into iMovie 9.0.4

I am trying to import video from a Panasonic LUMIX FZ200 camera into iMovie 9.0.4 on my daughters computer,

which is an iMac, running 10.6.8 (the latest version that can be installed).

I believe that the video is in AVCHD format.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Check the recording quality setting.

The Panasonic FZ200 can be set to record in various qualities in AVCHD.

PSH= 50p/60p

FSH=50i/60i

SH=50p/60p

50/60=PAL/NTSC. If nj =New Jersey then it is NTSC =60

iMovie version 9 (aka iMovie 11) does not support 50p or 60p, so conversion is required.

For information on conversion, Google " 50p iMovie 11" or "60p iMovie 11" or search on these forums.

iMovie version 10 does support 50p or 60p.

Does your Mac mini (Mavericks 10.9.5) have iMovie version 10?

If you have recorded in 60p and wish to continue with iMovie 9.0.4 then consider changing to 60i setting.

Thanks for the reply.

In the future she needs to record at a slightly lower quality, so that she will be able to import into iMovie version 9. Based on what you said FSH should work.

Her computer won't support iMovie version 10.

I have iMovie version 10.0.3.

One option is to convert her video to a format compatible with iMovie 9.0.4, with a slight loss in quality.

I might also export her video into my computer.

I am confused about AVCHD and MPEG-4. Does it make any difference?
