Will next version of Apple Watch OS let me listen to audio podcasts while I'm wearing my apple watch, during my runs/workouts, without having to carry my iphone (in un-tethered mode of the apple watch)? If not so, are there 3rd party apps that can do so?

Apple Watch does not presently support audio podcasts.

In the meanwhile, the workaround, though clumsy, would be to download the podcasts to iTunes on your computer, change them to regular audio files and sync them.
