fingerprint scanner sporatic

I have an iPhone 6 .. fingerprint scanner works only some of the time. I have removed the fingerprint and reset it at least a dozen time. I have wiped the home button with a soft cloth .. no improvement. I upgraded to IOS 9.0.2 .. no improvement. Anyone else had this issue? Wondering if I have a faulty phone?
