MacBook Pro not shutting down and very slow

MacBook has stopped shutting down. To turn it off, I now have to force shut down by holding the power button. Similarly, it has become very laggy.


Any ideas about what to do?

This is not likely to be related to your problem, but it appears that your version of Tunnelblick is out-of-date. I say this because recent versions do not usually load the "net.tunnelblick.tun" kext, and it was loaded on your machine. Old versions of Tunnelblick contain security vulnerabilities and should be updated to one of the latest versions (stable or beta). Extremely old versions of Tunnelblick include kexts which are not compatible with recent versions of OS X.


The easiest way to update is to use Tunnelblick's built-in updater: in Tunnelblick's "VPN Details" window, click on the large "Preferences" button at the top of the window to view the preferences panel. Then in the "Updates" section click on the "Check Now" button. Very old versions have other ways of updating; if you can't figure out how to update it, just download the latest version from Tunnelblick's Downloads page and then install it by double-clicking. (Don't "uninstall" it first; installing a new version "on top of" an old version will update the old version without losing any of your existing configurations or settings.)


Note: It is unlikely but possible that you don't have Tunnelblick and that you have a "rebranded" version of Tunnelblick instead. Tunnelblick is open source, free software, so anyone can make his/her own version and give it a different name (rebranding it). If you have such a rebranded version, you should contact the person or organization that provided it to you and get their instructions for updating.


If you want to uninstall Tunnelblick, the best way to do it is to follow the instructions at Uninstalling Tunnelblick. Do not simply drag it to the Trash.
