Errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1611, 9006.
Sometimes security software can stop your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.
Check your security software and settings to make sure that they aren't blocking a connection to the Apple servers.
If you still see the error message, check for USB connection issues.

I actually do not think that there is any communication problem to the apple servers. In fact firewalls are off and i tried the update on mac and windows with 2 different internet connections. I also used several different USB cables so I don't think thats the issue
However I notice that the ipad is rebooting just before Itunes reports the error9 message.
It seems thouth that I'm not alone with this problem. Here a post on reddit with exactly the same issue. (I took the liberty of copying his text as i did the same steps) . https://www.reddit.com/r/applehelp/comments/3np4s2/issues_with_updating_from_433 _to_902_on_ipad_2/
