Garageband records over audio
My Garageband recording stops after 4 seconds and loops back to the beginning and then writes over what I've just recorded. How do I get this to stop?

You have probably the cycle region enabled. Do you see a yellow bar at the top of the track area? Then click the cycle button to disable it:
