El Capitan Spotlight Search

Hello Apple, I just upgrade to El Capitan on my MacBook Pro 15" (mid-2012). My Spotlight Search seem not working well as WWDC 2015. I can't search for documents by time, I can't get weather in Spotlight.

Hi there sarath.lun,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

If I understand correctly, Spotlight search is no longer displaying specific results on your MacBook Pro. If you haven't already, take a look at the article below and make sure the Spotlight preferences are set appropriately.

If searching your Mac doesn’t return expected results - Mac Help

Check your Spotlight preferences

  • You may have removed items from Spotlight search results. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Spotlight, then click Search Results.

  • You may have excluded certain folders or disks from searches. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Spotlight, then click Privacy.

  • You may have turned off Location Services for Spotlight Suggestions. For more information, see About Spotlight Suggestions.

For more information about Spotlight preferences, see Spotlight preferences.

So long.

Since approximately the last 5 versions of OS X, my spotlight has not worked properly.
Examples:
• I can search for files I can see on my desktop and it does not show up.
• Often the same folders or files will not show up in Spotlight even after I add extra tags to the files / folders.

I tried many many times over the last years to reset the search index and any other tricks I have found on the internet, but Spotlight still only works 50% or something like that. So it will find SOME files, but it's more often than not, that I will have to go and search for a folder or file manually by navigating in Finder.

This is incredibly annoying. I feel like I never got Spotlight on my Mac, which by the way has been bought and sold several times over the given time frame. I have also made several clean installs.

What the heck is going on? Does anyone have any ideas? I have pretty much just given up and just accepted that Spotlight simply does not work, but I need it so badly in my daily work on my Mac that I have to give it another try by asking in this forum.

Please help!
