Chud tools for Powermac G5

Yes, I knew about the OF command to limit the cpu to one but, like you, I remember that affecting CPU b only. I found a copy of Chud tools 3.5.2 that talks about the option to shut down Cpu/s in its documentation but there is no app for it in the hardware tools section so I may not have gotten the full download or that is not the right version for the G5.

Sorry for late reply. That is a good point. I have been sick but I will look and see if I installed it. I think I used to for single user stations but not for my server.

I just installed the full X code package for 10.5 which included the developer tools and then reinstalled Chud tools but the Hardware control for the gpu "nap" function still does not show up under hardware tools.

Actually I do have the CPU preference panel installed now. Sadly, I don't think this will help as CPU A core 1 is the hottest and that one seems to be the one you cannot turn off by default.

Sniff, Yes, I am reduced to that option I think. Running at half speed keeps the temps low enough for me to work on fixing a failed raid array, recovering its data, and beginning to think about migrating to a new machine. Sad, as with a custom patch for the bash vulnerability 10.5 server was the last fully functional server OS. Fixing the LCS on this machine would be too much effort for anything other than a longer term personal project. It isn't leaking so it could be sedimentation, or blocked radiator fins, or a failing pump. I am a bit surprised that it was CPU A cooling that went as traditional people wigged about CPU B running fast even back when there were the latest and greatest. It could be dried thermal paste on CPU A as well I suppose.
