mac book freezes on location services from browser

my Mac Book pro just started to recently freeze and lock up when I try to open up a page to maps.google.com. The machine also locked up when I went to bing maps as well ( not tested on all 3 browsers). This behavior is there for chrome, safari and firefox leading me to believe somehow the service call to location services is locking up the machine.

I've used just purely the maps app and it seems to work fine.

I've ran hardward diagnostic and everything checks out

only thing I can think of is that I did some updates recent updates but judging from the name, it shouldn't impact all 3 browsers. the updates are:

safari: version 9.0

slack: version 1.1.4

MS remote desktop: v8.0.20

Command Line Tools: v 7

Itunes: v12.3

I don't see much in my console logs as to what's causing the freeze as I'm holding down the power button for 5 secs for a reset every time.. suggestions?
