My Mac Restarts randomly please help

My mac restarts randomly and very frequently. Sometimes while using chrome, sometimes while reading a pdf, reviewing a powerpoint, etc. Whenever it does restart, it always happens twice. After ten seconds into the restart, it restarts again and then finally starts working. This happens as frequently as 1-10 times a day. I am frustrated because I don't know what's wrong. I know its a kernel Panic but I do not know why its happening. I have all the latest software updates as well. It's been happening since a year now. Here is the error report, please help me read it:

You have the misfortune of having a model identifier 6.2 MBP that is experiencing GPU problems. There was a replacement program on these models but that has expired.

You can have the logic board replaced, but that will be at your expense.

You may download this application as an interim measure:

https://gfx.io/

This will allow you to disengage the discrete GPU and use only the integrated one. This will stop the kernel panics but at the expense of graphics performance.

Hey There,

Thank you very much for the prompt response. I think I'm not gonna be using this laptop for more than a few months. Should I keep using it on integrative mode or should I invest in a logic board just for a few months?

What would you do if you were in this position ?

I would install the software that I linked to. GPU performance will not be the best but the MBP should be functional.

I would only replace the logic board if I found one favorably priced. My guess is that Apple will charge $600+ for a replacement.

Hey Ogel,

Sorry for bothering you again, but you seem to be very knowledgable 🙂

I was wondering about upgrading to a SSD and increasing my ram. Do you think it would be a good idea considering that I have the logic board problem ? Also do you think that it would make a significant difference in the performance of my laptop, considering it is a 2010 model i5, 2.53Ghz?

I have 1 17" MBP and I have installed 8 GB RAM and a Crucial SSD in it. I find the performance to be excellent, BUT there is no problem with the GPU in my machine.

I personally would not invest more resources in a MBP with a problematic GPU. If the logic board were replaced, then yes. As the situation is now, I might look for a good 2012 15" MBP, but there are risks in purchasing a second hand MBP.

I do not think it is the GPU because I had it replaced but I am still having exactly the same kernel panics. Also ran some hardware tests for GPU and RAM and everything is fine. I have already tried everything but the kernel panics are still happening.
