Home Sharing not working since latest update. HELP

I have just updated my macbook air and my iPhone 6 and I can't get home sharing to work on the apple TV. I can't even get the remote app to work on my phone, as it keeps saying turn your home sharing on. I have turned it off and back on, I have turned the computer off and back on. I have signed out and back into my iTunes account and I still can't get home sharing to work on my Apple TV or my other devices. I have reset the Apple TV back to factory setting, and updated it - still not working. We have 3 iPhones, 3 iPads, and a macbook and I can't get anything to connect to home sharing. They all are in the same network. It's driving me INSANE.

This doesn't help but I have exactly the same problem with my Mac. I used to be able to reliably share home movies with my Apple TV but now get the message turn on home sharing or occasionally can't connect to iTunes Library.

Likewise. I can't get home sharing to work between my 3rd Gen Apple TV and Macbook Pro running El Capitan with iTunes 12.3 however the remote app on my iPhone is working to control the Apple TV.

I finally solved the Home Sharing issue I was having. I had gone into iTunes preferences and made sure that "share my library on my local network" was enabled on the sharing tab but it still wasn't working. In addition to this setting you also need to go to the file menu - home sharing - and Turn on Home Sharing. Seems obvious now but I hadn't noticed this option in the menus before.

After months of problems with Apple TV I Phoned up Apple support today and we talked through my problem of not being able to load my library or play home videos to my TV , the problem was quickly resolved by disabling the firewall on Mcafee. Hope this helps someone.

Thank you, THANK YOU! After months of banging my head against the wall, trying to figure out what the issue was, I read your post, turned off the McAfee Firewall and everything it back to normal! YAY!

THANK YOU! Was going bonkers trying to figure out why Home Sharing wasn't working. Had it enabled in Preferences thought that was all I needed. Had no idea it was under the File menu. Fixed for me!
