fcp7 and xavc s
I'm trying out XAVC S on a Sony camera, but the files I get on the card are avchd. Anyone know why this is happening? More importantly, does FCP7 recognize the format at all?
Thanks

Hey John,
You're posting in the FCP X forum. You'll het a better response to FCP 7 questions in the Final Cut Studio forum.

You might also try Sony's camera support forums, if there are any. There will be more people using FCPX or FCP7 on those forums than XAVC users here, I think.
If you find a solution, please let us know.
Are you looking in the correct directory?
XAVC files are stored on the camera media in the following directory:
Cam Card > PRIVATE > M4ROOT > CLIP
For use in FCP7 you need to convert these files from .mp4 to prores, Edit Ready is a good app for this:

Sorry for posting in the FCPX forum, but I'll finish up here since I've begun here...but I'll look elsewhere too.
Anyway, fines are there, identified as MPEG-4 movies, with codec of H264, linear PCM. Does that mean that they are nowhere identified as XAVC S? I think that is what is confusing me.
They are not labeled as XAVC-S.
You need to convert the files for use in FCP-7, use an app such as EditReady to do so:

Newer editing software such as FCP-X or Premiere Pro will edit the files without pre-conversion
